Not In My House: TV

So I moved into a new place...

and I don't have a TV...

nor do I plan on getting one.

The past two months of my life have been great.

Crude, violent, hyper-sexual, commercial, rude, vulgar, and idiotic imagery and sounds have ceased to be part of what I allow to go into my brain.

Okay so I'm missing out of the good stuff like EWTN, the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and the weird news/entertainment/proud venting from Fox News.

Number Nine on my Ten Ways to Lead a Chaste Life in and Un-Chaste World list is "Be careful of your influences."

In coming up with a "chastity" talk I couldn't help but confront the fact that pursuing the virtue of chastity in any serious way would be laughable if one drank from the dirty water that flows from television.

Now I am perfectly aware that there is NOTHING inherently wrong with the medium of television.

The problem is, this tele-vision medium has been taken over in such a way that one cannot surf from channel to channel without being exposed to stuff that personally, I just don't want in my brain.

The phrase "garbage in, garbage out" fits well.

If you let garbage into your brain, what do you think will manifest in your thoughts? In your life?

How am I to see the beautiful and inherent dignity in others and myself when my brain in being bombarded by the "perfectly" proportioned bodies of actors and actresses on TV?

How am I to have sincere respect for life and death when the bodies of the deceased are shown so gratuitously on TV?

I love not having the influence of TV so much that I'm seriously thinking of giving up the radio.

Except for the Spanish station.

I don't really know what they're saying anyway.
